If someone told me ten years ago that Robbie Williams and Dizzee Rascal would be teaming up to drop a single that had ‘Summer Banger’ etched all over it, I would have told them to fix up sharp. Well, in a manner that would shock Elton John and Eminem, Dizzee Rascal has hired the vocal skills and sounds of Robbie Williams to produce the catchy ‘Goin Crazy’.
For all the ‘selling out’ noise that comes from the Grime scene when Dizzee makes another hit, it seems the ‘Boy In The Corner’ MC has truly got the music scene under his thumb this year. Having dropped Bassline Junkie at the start of the year, this new single goes on to show how diverse the MC from Bow actually is. Take a listen and let us know what you think. Clearly Jack and Hurley from Lost love this track so much they agreed to star in the video (see above).
Dylan Mills aka Dizzee Rascal, is a British born MC/rapper and record producer. His music is a blend of MCing, conventional rap and ragga, with extremely eclectic samples. His debut album, Boy in Da Corner, won him the 2003 Mercury Prize. Follow-up albums Showtime and Maths + English have also been critically acclaimed
Robbie was a member of the pop group Take That. Williams rose to fame in the band’s first run in the early- to mid-1990s. After many disagreements with the management and certain group members, Williams left the group in 1995 to launch his solo career which some would say was making of the Robbie we know today. No-one pulling the strings and telling him how to behave. Dizzee on the other hand came from the polar opposite, the tough and unforgiving Grime scene which still has a pointless issue with the commercial success of Dizzee’s Career. ‘He’s sold out’ ‘Mans gone soft’ is often the cry from MC’s still living with their mothers when he teams up with international superstars to produce what people actually want to hear.
Still, our favorite Dizzee moment has to be his appearance on Paxman after Obama took office in the US – Dizzee Rascal from Prime Minister!
