Music has long been associated with TV, whenever there’s silence that needs to be filled producers love to stick a song in to add to the scene. Whether you’ve realised it not, these artists have been featured in all the TV shows you watch and chances are you enjoyed their music too.
Nika Roza Danilova, better known by her stage name Zola Jesus, is an American singer-songwriter who spans a wide variety of experimental genres to bring you some ear-pleasing tunes. Her cinematic songs have been in everything from Grey’s Anatomy to The Vampire Dairies and if you don’t recognise her song Skin, well then you should be watching more television, or perhaps just better shows.
M83 are a French electronic duo consisting of Anthony Gonzalez and Nicolas Fromageau. The pair have had considerable success partly due to their music being featured in TV and movies. Their most popular song is, without a doubt, Midnight City which has been in shows such as Made In Chelsea and 90210. Personally, Midnight City get a big thumbs up so I would recommend you to definitely check them out.
We’re hopping back across the pond this time to talk about New York based indie pop singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson. This thirty-something year old woman has released five studio albums to date and is a soundtrack veteran at this stage. Hit US TV shows like The Big C and One Tree Hill have all seen Michaelson narrate their scenes with her dulcet tones. Give her song Keep Breathing a listen and see do you recognise it.
Again, we have another personal favourite and it comes in the form of indie-folk trio Elena Tonra, Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella. The English band recently released their debut album If You Leave which has been met with huge critical acclaim so it’s no surprise really that their music has been in several TV shows like Suburgatory and Mistresses. Click the play button and enjoy their amazing song Youth.
