A week in and Netflix’s trending phenomena Bird Box is still trending but for all the wrong reasons. If you don’t link spoilers, now is the time to put on your blindfold as we are going to review the movie and look at why Bird Box is trending. First stop, the official Bird Box trailer.
When a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, only one thing is certain: if you see it, you take your life. Facing the unknown, Malorie (Sandra Bullock) finds love, hope and a new beginning only for it to unravel. Now she must flee with her two children down a treacherous river to the one place left that may offer sanctuary. But to survive, they’ll have to undertake the perilous two-day journey blindfolded.
Strap in for a bumpy ride.
The biggest problem with this film is despite a good start, you will feel like you have watched it before. 2008’s post-apocalyptic psychological thriller ‘The Happening’ has been here before and this year’s blockbuster, ‘A Quiet Place‘ does it way better but there is something about this movie that will keep your eyes open despite the moments of boredom.
That something is Malorie’s unique relationships with everyone she encounters. At time it is so comical it detracts from the movie leaving you thinking about the tidal wave of memes to come.
According to Netflix themselves, the Netflix Original thriller has been viewed by over 45 million Netflix accounts in its first seven days which is truly amazing but not surprising given that it was released over the Christmas holiday – a time synonymous for laziness, sharing and overindulgence.
Opinions on social media platforms such as Facebook are split right down the middle with some regarding this as the scariest movie they have seen and others bemoaning the lacklustre suspense. What however has got everyone talking and tweeting is the unique relationship Sandra Bullock has with her children which has created a sea of memes.
