I’ve just got back from the frantically insane hustle and bustle that is London Fashion Week, somehow I’ve come back with more clothes than I brought with me, enough goody bags to feed my entire street and 4 64gb memory cards worth of photos and footage. It’s been busy to say the least, LFW certainly keeps me on my toes, luckily I managed to bag a Premier Inn in Holborn for the week which means I’m within central walking distance of Somerset House and Covent Garden, I’d just returned from the NME Awards at the Brixton Academy and had a few run ins with Jarvis Cocker, Tom from Kasabian and Florence Welch, what already seemed a mesmerizing few days was about to get more insane.
Friday 20th February
Me and my boyfriend woke at 6am, switching from Brixton to Holborn, we checked into our hotel, bags stored, 5 parcels in my name, as we ripped through paper to find our tickets for the week, a few moments to spare to re-apply lipstick and flagged an Uber taxi to Somerset House, where our journey began. Within 10 seconds we storm through Laura Whitmore getting papped with her beige mac coat and oversized sunglasses she was barely recognizable!
We arrived 9:15am, the doors to J JS. Lee had been bolted, we missed our first major show, second row back, absolutely gutted! After hanging around Somerset House and being approached by German tv to ask about the future of lilac hair and becoming part of Loreal’s Street Style Campaign. It was then time for Daks, gracing the stem of the catwalk I had the perfect view for photos, the collection all in red and blacks, mod inspired with an Italian twist, it was mesmerizing and I walked out the black room wanting to dash to the nearest shop to buy some postbox red patent brogues.
My bright pink/purple hair caught the attention of photographers as I went around the designer showrooms, a lot of Asian designers have succeeded in finding a platform for their pieces and had me eagerly flicking through their work, I now have a notebook filled with new names I’m keeping a watchful eye over for the next few years! We grabbed some eggs Florentine for brunch with LG at The Hospital Club, an absolute delight before hitting up Felder Felder at Freemasons Hall. My outfit somewhat inspired by Felder Felder I dressed in head to toe embroidered florals embracing a boho kimono and oversized blouse.
The collection as always dropped jaws, I bumped into some renowned bloggers for a quick chin wag but we had to fly back to our hotel to pick up a dress. I’ve just been made brand ambassador of TTYA (Taller Than Your Average) a clothing company for tall girls over 5”10 I changed into my custom dress and went to Mas-Q-Menos a Spanish tapas joint seconds away from our hotel and got a taxi to Park Lane where the event was held in Le Peep, the drinks were strong with some of the coolest urban media types I’ve ever met.
Saturday 21st February
A slow morning soon paced itself after an omelet and glass of orange juice. We dashed back to Somerset House our 3 shows that day within an hour of each other, we literally stood in HEMYCA for less than one minute, stunning show showcasing stationary models on podiums with a dinner party like atmosphere more than showroom.
Next Jasper Conran, inspired by glamorous wartime femininity, with leaves covering the ground it was not a show to forget. Lastly Soojin Lee someone I’d been dying to see, the collection in an array of pastel prints against navy was stunning. In between shows we got the chance to head backstage with LG and their Steam Team, the garment supplier of LFW and head to the ME Hotel Media Lounge, where I could charge everything, upload photos and get some coffee down me. At lunch we headed to Covent Garden for a Shake Shack burger, after much debate whether our first burgers should be Shake Shack or Five Guys we picked the first, I bumped into some bloggers I’d arranged to meet, which was a pleasant surprise and strolled around the Fashion Scout showrooms and came out with some Snog Frozen Yoghurt which I’m now hooked on!
My Yeti coat got a lot of attention that day, certainly an outfit Noel Fielding would have been proud of and definitely kept me snug in the London winds. For the evening we found a Cantonese place for some spinach dumplings, duck and some yummy green tea. Overall a fab day!
Sunday 22nd February
Today I was feeling especially pastel, pink leather jacket, pink fluffy cat bag and a pussycat bow blouse with ripped knee skinny jeans. Effortlessly cool. Our schedule was somewhat free, breakfast was slow taking at least an hour to east a croissant.
Around 9 I headed up to Fashion Scout to see 3 wonderful designers; Anna K, Pentatonica and Dinara Nurian. All so very contrastive to the next, my favourite was Anna K who showed childlike pastel designs with abstract geometric sewn on shapes and oversized bows, and briefly got to see her hanging around outside, to which I wish I stopped and said hello, and highly regret not plucking up the courage on a Sunday morning.
We decided to go up and down Oxford Street and get lunch at the Spaghetti House outside Libertys near Carnaby Street, it was really sweet going at our pace, standing back to have a look around and enjoy the week.
It started pouring it down with rain but somehow that was okay, we found a place for a cup of coffee until it stopped and strolled back to the hotel for an Indian takeaway, I accidentally cat napped the entire evening away and felt the pressure of the week caving in. I knew tomorrow the pace would be picked up as I took over two instagrams, one for a watch company and another a jewelry brand. Stress.
Monday 23nd February
Monday was the third morning we’d seen Laura Whitmore, and thought what an odd coincidence this was, luckily sat near here in most shows and seen my big fur coats in the background of all photos, a somewhat improvement from last year at Matthew Williamson as my shocked face graced the front cover of The Daily Mail in the back of Nicole Scherzinger and Poppy Delavigne’s photos.
We spent most of our day at the Me Hotel throwing together content, answering emails and enjoying the view that the ME had to offer, stretching across the prettiest parts of London. I wore a speckled black and grey fur coat, check grid trousers, a vintage Pink Floyd tee and brogue creeper platforms, the day was bright and spent behind Miu Miu sunglasses, at lunch we ordered in some Squid and sweet potato bravas, for me spending time down south also means trying out all foods, and within the last few days squeezed in British, American, Italian, Spanish, French, Cantonese, Indian and Lebanese food. In the evening after going to Dora Abodi (which blew our minds) I treated my boyfriend to an Italian, live piano, and good wine and strolled back to our hotel merry and ready for a snooze and Top Gear (not quite so glam!)
Tuesday 24th February
Our final day, having breakfast with my eyes closed and sneaking out a buttered croissant under my arm, we packed up, wished the staff a pleasant day we headed up to Somerset House for quick meeting with a watch company, I went to the Ashley Williams show sat directly opposite Alexa Chung (wow!). Williams’ show was by far my favourite, black and pink furs and just so damn cool, she nails it every season. After I got chatting to Alexa Chung and Pixie Geldof and got a photo with her, my boyfriend was swearing down the phone regretting not attending with me.
After grabbing a quick Lebanese wrap lunch we headed backstage to Christopher Raeburn and Emilio De La Morena, grabbed some beauty photos of the models just before they flew down the catwalk. Later we attended our last show of LFW which was H by Hakaan bumping into a few readers and stunned by the finale of aquatic like headwear, we jumped into a taxi to head to the Bloggers Hub dinner party and gifting lounge, overcrowded, cold food and no one said a word, after getting screamed at by an ex-X Factor contestant we jumped into a taxi and vowed to head home, in the taxi ride a flood of tweets exclaiming I was at the party polluted my notifications and wish half these people said hello as it was by far our worst night, a cup of coffee in Euston and on the quiet train home back to Liverpool found us knackered by amazed by what was one of the best weeks of our lives.
