There’s a new name on the festive calendar this year. For the first time, Luton Hoo Estate is opening its gates to the public for a large-scale Christmas experience, inviting visitors to “unlock Christmas” across 15 acres of its historic grounds.
Set between Harpenden and Luton, Christmas at Luton Hoo Estate runs on selected dates from 4th December 2026 to 3rd January 2027. It brings together a mile-long Light Trail, a skating rink, a Father Christmas grotto and live entertainment, and tickets are on sale now.
A Mile of Light Through the Walled Garden
The centrepiece is an illuminated Light Trail that follows a one-mile route through the estate’s historic Walled Garden. After dark, its pathways come alive with botanical projections, light tunnels and atmospheric soundscapes, so it’s as much about the setting as the lights themselves. Allow up to an hour to wander it at your own pace.

Skates On in the Walled Garden
The Walled Garden is also home to a new Skating Rink, ringed with festive lighting. Sessions last 45 minutes, skate hire is included, and skaters need to be aged three or over. It’s an easy add-on for families, couples or groups of friends, and a combination ticket covers both the Light Trail and the rink.

A Mission for Father Christmas’s Elves
For younger visitors, The Grotto is likely to be the highlight. Some of Father Christmas’s top elves lead children on a special Christmas mission in a 15-minute group performance, before each family enjoys its own visit with Father Christmas himself, and every child goes home with a gift.
Calmer Sessions, Dog-Friendly Dates and VIP Packages
The organisers have thought carefully about who can enjoy the event. Selected Starlight Sessions offer SEND guests and their families a calmer way to experience the Light Trail and The Grotto, running at 50% capacity with quieter audio and time to go at a slower pace. On selected dates, dog-friendly Christmas Tails sessions let four-legged family members join in, and assistance dogs are welcome at every session.
For a bigger celebration, VIP packages for four, six or eight guests include reserved seating in a heated lounge beside the rink, two skating sessions, unlimited hot chocolate and mulled wine for adults, a festive bite to eat, priority parking, and a blanket and tote bag for everyone to take home. They’re aimed at family get-togethers and groups as well as work celebrations.
Elsewhere, a food and drink area serves seasonal dishes, and a central stage hosts live entertainment and festive performances until Christmas Eve.
A New Way to See the Estate
Edward Phillips, Chief Executive of Luton Hoo Estate, said the team is delighted to be opening the gates for something brand new. “The Estate provides a unique setting and we are looking forward to welcoming families, friends and groups to discover it in a completely different way,” he said.
The event is produced by TAG Live, whose CEO, Andy Mills-Brown, said the aim was to create something that feels genuinely different and makes the most of the setting, letting visitors put together the Christmas visit that works for them.
